Employee Development Center

The Dow Chemical Company

Midland, Michigan

Located on the Alden Dow-designed headquarters campus, the Center containing an employee training center, wellness center and office space, attaches to the walkway system that interconnects each of the buildings on-site.

Tucked into a hillside spanning the southern edge of the campus, the building is stratified to provide security and to permit each of its separate functions to operate independently. On the entry level is the employee-training center, with its computer-based interactive systems providing training courses for all of the company’s employees. Break areas are located along the glazed south wall and afforded panoramic views of the campus’ grounds. The entry lobby provides overflow prefunction space for a 450-seat auditorium complementing the training center. Office areas are contained on the upper floor, and the lower floor contains a wellness center, including health screening, company clinic, aerobics, weight areas, racquet courts and indoor track. An outdoor fitness course that traverses the campus connects to the building.
